Doppler and M-Modes: Biosound MyLab 30 Training Part 3 of 6

Part 3 of the Biosound Esaote MyLab 30 training series shows you how to use PW, Power, Color Doppler, and M-Modes on the Biosound MyLab 30 portable ultrasound machine.

Before entering Doppler mode, you can use this line update key to get your cursor in place at wherever you’d like in the image. So when you’re imaging, you can go down, go like that, and you can enter your Doppler mode from there.

We’ll start with M-mode. To enter M-mode, just press the M-mode key now. And you can scroll. And you get your image down here. Again, you have a bunch of options down here is to what you can do. TEI is tissue enhancement. BREF takes you to the full M-mode screen. Press it again to get the dual.

Change your sweep speed by using these keys here. Next, previous. Change your format. Here– small, medium, and large. Again, you have the dynamic range and other things. Gray map, colorized, sharpness, sweep speak. If PLX is short for duplex, you can hit that and get a single image or hit it again and get two live images.

CMM is for compass M-mode. if you hit this, it will allow you to scroll to a certain point of the image as to what you’d like to see. Press it again to get out. Let’s go back to 2D. You can hit Line Update to get rid of that line. Now if we want to go to Doppler, I’m not going to get a great image here. It is just for demonstration purposes.

I’m going to hit our Line and we go to pulse-wave Doppler. You have two options for steering. We’ll go to Duplex to see the live image here. And here, you can use the D-steer to steer that cursor.

This, and you also have Steer here. They both do the same thing. Angle will allow you to change the angle for angle correction. You see your angle up there to make sure you have it correct. For your Doppler gain, you use this control over here. You can also use the audio here to turn it down if it got too loud.

2D gain over here will allow you to change the 2D game in your image. Now you can also hit the Adjust key. And it will try to automatically optimize your Doppler signal based on what it sees. Hit it again to get rid of that.

Now, over here, we have ADM, which is the Automatic Doppler Trace. So if we had a real Doppler signal here, it does the automatic trace and shows your velocities and all your information on the left-hand side of the screen.
BREF does the exact same thing as it did in M-mode. You’ll hit that, and it will change to go to full screen or just the partial screen. Change of velocity, your baseline, your sample size. We already did the angles. Go next, we have a gray map colorize, filter rejection. Here you have your format, just like it was previously. Reverse flips it. And PLEX takes you to Duplex.

And if you have color, it’ll also take you to Triplex mode. Go to B-mode to go back. CW Doppler works very much the same way as does it does in post-wave Doppler. So we’ll jump into color. I’m going to get rid of this line here.

And It’s CFM to enter Color mode. And we’ll use the trackball to position it and then the action key to change the size of our box. And up here, it’s showing us that there are two different things we can do with the trackball. And note that they highlight as I change them.

You can use the steer to change the angle of the box. And just note that when you’re at the steepest angle, you’ll probably get some artifact in the image, just because the steering angle is so strong. Again, just like before, this would be the color gain and this would be your 2D image gain. Now, we can go to DCFM to see a side-by-side, which is going to show us the 2D image on the left, and the color image on the right.

We can hit Power Doppler to enter into angio or also known as Color Power Doppler, which operates the exact same as the Color Doppler as far as choosing a region of interest box. Again, you have the same controls down here– baseline, steering, filters, smoothness, eclipse, color map, and all these different functions down here that have been explained in previous movies. To get out of it, just hit Power Doppler again, and you’re back into the Color Doppler.

Now over here, again, TV View will take you to trapezoidal view. Now, there’s also something called Q-mode, which is like the color M-mode. So you just hit the M-mode button, and it’ll take you into a color M-Mode function. And next, we’ll get into measurements and annotations.
