There are quite a few menus to go through, but it’s an excellent exercise in understanding the machine and how you can best make it work for you.

Transcript to training on customizing the Chison Q9:

 To customize and set up your Chison Q9, press this Wrench icon. Now this feels a little bit like Windows here. You have a number of tabs across the top and then a second set of tabs for sub-menus of these tabs here. We’ll start on the general. These are your normal spots where enter your information for your department and your facility.

You set your date and time. If you want to show that TGC curve on that I showed earlier on how it appears very briefly. Fast Storage Setting– now this is something I showed in the Cine Review where we’re saving images, where from a live image, you’re going to hit this clip and it’s going to save the images as they happen.

So I had it set to five seconds. So it would say five seconds, and then it would continue scanning. So I never had to freeze, and I could still save those images. You can do it manual, where you user it as a start and stop. You can customize it as to how long you want to do, however many seconds. And you can choose from one of those. Second is if you wanted to go to removable media directly from there. May not be a great idea since it does have to convert in order to do it. If you want a screen saver, you’ll do the setting here.

Keyboard– this would be set up for how you’re going to print. Your trackball, your sensitivity, high or low. Video Print– do you want it to show the whole screen or just the image? And same thing here for PC Print. And same thing here. For this Print key, Video Print would be a video printer. PC Print would be a report printer hooked up.

Measurements– here, you can add or remove measurements from the menus that appear. You can do a little check mark by clicking on them. You can add or remove what they want or the order in which they appear. You can click up and down and have them appear in a different order. And here, you can actually edit those types of measurements. This will go through any of those packages. You can remove these from– those are the things that are going to show up on the left or the right-hand side.

General– how do you want your units displayed? Do you want the ellipse method to make an area measurement off the get-go? Your font size and how many heart rate cycles– if you’re going to choose the heart rate and pulse wave or M-Mode, how many heart rate cycles do you want it to choose? And here’s where you’re going to choose the OB tables that you would use for those calculations.

Here’s your Comment Library. When those comments appear, when you start typing, how do you want it to show up? And the Library, here is where you can edit the abbreviations that show up in each of those libraries when you start typing.

Report– this customizes the report and how it looks and the different sections that you can add and the different fields and how you want it all to look. It can be pretty complicated. You could add templates, save templates. And then if you want to import your logo, you put in a USB stick and upload your logo. And how do you want images to appear on that report when you insert the images?

DICOM is beyond what we get into here, since most of that information is done by your IT department. Only someone on-site at your facility would be able to help you with this because they would have all the pertinent information. But when you want to add a site, you’re going to choose the type of service, Print Worklist, NPPS, or Structured Reporting Storage.

This is where you’ll enter the AE title, the port. They’ll give you all this information there to enter into your ultrasound machine. You’d have those services listed here. And you could modify, delete. You’d use this verify to make sure it’s connected to that. Here, when you get into your own, local network, you’re going to click on Network.

Obtain IP Address Automatically– this is something you’ll leave on, but your IT professional will tell you what to do here. This is for a network storage if you choose to have the images sent to a network drive for storage, such as a PC or a system server that is not DICOM. Preset– I’m going to get into this later in the movie. Just know that this is here, and we’ll get to that in a little bit. System– this would be something that, if you’re having an issue with your system or needed some sort of upgrade or software update, this is where you would go. And all of the information you would enter here would be given to you by a service engineer.

Now let’s go back to presets. There’s a number of ways to do presets. There are user define, where you can have five different separate user presets that we showed in one of the first videos. And here’s how you’d want to do that.

Let’s go back here, clicking OK. And let’s say we made a bunch of changes, and we wanted to have your own customized preset. And we just decided we just really, really made a lot of changes to what’s going on. If I want to save that– say I made those changes every single time, and I don’t want to have to remember or make those changes every time I did an exam.

You’re going to click the Menu button. Once you’ve made these changes, you click the Menu button, scroll down to Utility, and press down the Menu. We use SK 1 through SK 5. And you’re going to choose the user define here 1. First, we’re going to say what application do I want it to show up as. Let’s say I made this a nerve 1, and it’s going to be in the nerve presets.

And then my user define, do I want it as user 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5? So let’s just say I choose user 1, and then I would click Save. And from the Main Menu, that would be set. Do you want to save this to nerve user 1? Say yes. Preset has been saved. So now, when I go back to this screen, I choose nerve. User 1 would be my user preset. Default would be what it originally came with.

If I want to use user 1 on this, I would double click that. And that would show all those changes I made to that. You can do that. You have five separate presets for each one of those applications. So there are a large number of user presets you can have on this machine. So going back to this Tools, where we go to the presets here. I did make that user 1, and now, it’s highlighted.

I can set that as a default, or I can reset. We’re going to leave things as they are. But if I have another machine at this same software– say I have a few of them– and I don’t want to make those changes on each machine manually, I can export those to a USB stick and then, in turn, import those on the next machine from this very same screen. Here, we can also rename that user preset.

Click Modify. Now, that user preset has my name on it, so I’ll know every time that that’s the preset that I want to use. And again, you can have up to five, so if you have five people in your department doing this same study, they can each have their own preset. And then you can also overwrite those presets in the future from that previous menu that I showed you when you’re in the imaging mode. Oops. There we go.
