Compare GE Ultrasound Machines

GE has been producing top quality ultrasound machines for decades and to this day is the brand that offers the largest selection of different diagnostic ultrasound machines. GE believes in creating the perfect machine for every application, every price point, and every mobility need. There are 27 GE ultrasound machines currently in production and 15 discontinued models are also compared here.

Unlike almost any other ultrasound brand, GE has three completely separate product lines in ultrasound, and if you count portable ultrasound as a 4th product line, then the choices can become almost confusing! Which GE ultrasound should you consider?

In short, if you are a Cardiologist you should focus on the GE Vivid line. If you want 4D for OB/GYN applications you should focus on the GE Voluson line. If you want an ultrasound machine that does both Cardiology and 4D OB/GYN you should consider the GE Logiq lineup. Every other application should generally consider the Logiq line as the most balanced and able to do everything. The portable line uses the GE Vivid, Logiq, and Voluson product names to guide your selection with the exception of the Vscan and Venue ultrasounds.

The Vscan is cardiology-focused and would correspond more closely to the GE Vivid line. The Venue 40 and Venue 50 meanwhile more closely match up with the Logiq line. Probo Medical is the largest global wholesale distributor of GE ultrasound machines has sold and serviced nearly every GE ultrasound made. We sell and service GE, Philips, Siemens, Samsung Medison, and many other brands. These decades of multi-brand experience allow Probo Medical to pass on the most unbiased and complete information on GE ultrasound machines and how they compare with each other and competing brands.

GE Voluson Ultrasound Machines

The GE Voluson product line is made specifically for 3D and 4D OB/GYN and Women’s health. Neonatal Cardiology, Vascular, and General Imaging applications are optional features as well. GE acquired the Voluson name and superior 4D technology from Medison and launched it again as the Voluson 730. With GE’s development and huge marketing budget, the Voluson 730 became the most well-known and biggest-selling 4D ultrasound in history. GE has since built many successful units in this line as well as retiring the Voluson 730.

The most expensive premium machines at the top and going down in features, size, and price the farther down the list you go. Ultrasounds with a checkmark by them are top-rated in our best 3D / 4D ultrasound machines buyer’s guide.

GE Logiq Ultrasound Machines

The Logiq product line is made as a shared service system to fit between the Voluson and Vivid product lines and allow for both 4D OB/GYN and Cardiovascular applications to be done on the same ultrasound machine. GE Logiq systems are also meant for General Imaging (GI), Radiology, Musculoskeletal (MSK), Urology, and Elastography applications. The Logiq line is the oldest and safest bet since it will do all applications.

GE Vivid Ultrasound Machines

The Vivid product line focuses on Cardiology with secondary Vascular and General Imaging capabilities. The Vivid line has the smallest number of models, and is most specialized. The Vivid line however also has the most portable versions, and the Vivid-i has become well known as the most popular (if not the most advanced) portable ultrasound for cardiovascular applications.

GE Portable Ultrasound Machines

GE has created more different portable ultrasound machines than any other brand, more than 2 or 3 major brands combined! Of course the GE Vivid, Logiq, and Voluson product lines have multiple portable versions, but GE has gone even smaller than the traditional laptop shaped ultrasound machine and created the first handheld and tablet-sized ultrasound machines and continues to develop this diminutive and inexpensive portables. The GE portable ultrasound segment is often grouped in the “point of care” category with mobile console systems with a limited battery.
